Welcome to The Turned Leg!
The Turned Leg transforms and repurposes a variety of home accents and solid wood furniture by hand with creative flair, using diverse painting and staining techniques. Our unique pieces blend into any home decor and include chairs, shelves, desks, footstools and china cabinets. We’re hands-on and personal in our approach to achieving our final product as well as hunting down and discovering our goods in unusual and unexpected environs. Every piece has a story to tell, a history and character that our finishes reveal and our technique retells for use in today’s homes. The Turned Leg takes inspiration from the piece itself to determine the color and approach we take. Our one-of-a-kind pieces fit into most budgets. Take a look at our products and visit us in person at our booths to find a treasure that will add interest and beauty to your home.Shop The Turned Leg at the Plaza Antiques & Collectibles Mall in Lincoln Park, Michigan!

The Turned Leg sells amazing salvaged, vintage and re-purposed furniture and accessories for your home. Most of our home accents and furniture are solid wood and how we refinish depends on the piece: we revive it and give it a future by peeling away layers of neglect. A tired desk that still wears its beautiful wood proudly can be brought back to its original glory with hand rubbing with tung oil, or a wood tinted stain.
Our painted pieces are finished by hand using a variety of contemporary paints such as Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Milk paint gives furniture a “chippy” look, often using two or more colors to deliver a weathered, “shabby chic” style. Chalk paint yields the distressed, French Country look, a perfect accent for any interior decor style. We protect our hand painted wares with wax, which can be darker or lighter than the base paint, rendering more definition and bringing out the details and carving in the wood. Our process constantly evolves as home decor styles change and we update our skills to stay current with trends. Dry brushing and paint layering is just one of the newer avenues we’re developing. Whatever approach we take, our pieces maintain their Old World charm and stellar craftsmanship.
How We Find Our Furniture and Home Accents
At The Turned Leg we are always on the lookout for new pieces with character that we can update and give a new look. By working with existing pieces, we’re being green and helping the environment, saving it from the landfill, one piece at a time. We’ve salvaged and rescued pieces everywhere from the streetside to vintage shops to neighbors’ basements. When we see something destined for the trash or languishing in neglect, we see their possibilities and lovingly and meticulously restore it to—and often better than—the original glory of its younger days. Please visit our products page to find a piece that you’ll cherish for many years and give a new home. We offer furniture and home accents for pickup in greater Detroit.
